Past District Governor from District 5870 to our south, Dr. Gene Davenport, will give us a presentation today about Georgetown Rotary's Racial Unity and Peacebuilding Committee.

The Rotary Club of Georgetown's Racial Unity and Peacebuilding Committee, which first convened in June of 2020 following an escalation of racial tension in the U.S., has been meeting weekly for more than two years promoting the belief of Rotary that "when people work to create peace in their communities, that change can have a global effect." Starting locally and connecting globally, we believe we can help Rotary create environments where peace can happen.

Gene was principal of Skyline High School in the DISD when our club president Don Ellis attended. Gene later  joined Rotary around 1982 while working in administration at the Dallas Independent School District. He joined Fair Park Rotary, and his proposer / sponsor was another DISD administrator, Harold Lictenwald, president of Fair Park Rotary at the time. President Elect of Fair Park was me, Tony Watson. Gene later moved from the area and eventually became the Superintendent for the Georgetown ISD. He was active in the Georgetown Rotary Club, served as president 2001-02, then served District 5790 as Governor in 2004-05. By the way, when Midlothian Rotary was chartered in 1969, it was in District 587, which later became 5870.
