Welcome to Rotary Club of Midlothian

Are you an established professional who wants to make positive changes in your community and the world? Our club members are dedicated people who share a passion for community service and friendship. Becoming a Rotarian connects you with a diverse group who share your drive to give back. We meet Tuesdays at noon at Jalapeño's Lemon Pepper, 1000 George Hopper in Midlothian. You are welcome to join us!
Club News

Our traditional home, the Midlothian Civic Center, has recently had a kitchen remodel and other updates, and manager Michelle Blaha will tell us about them today. Then, after closing out the regular meeting a little early, we will head for the Civic Center, on the southeast corner of 11th and Main, to see for ourselves.

Steve Symonds told about the founding and then the growth of this business, starting with his grandfather's favor to a neighbor.  Some of the flags and poles he produces are profoundly huge. Some of the tallest poles can cost north of a million dollars to produce and install. He warrants his poles to 100 mph winds with a flag attached.

Midlothian Police Commander Tim Hicks gave a program about the Professional Standards unit he commands at MPC. The standards to meet are high, but worth pursuing for our community to maintain the excellent police department we have.

Texas House District 10 Representative Brian Harrison spoke to us about the legislative session and extra sessions at our meeting on October 21. Picture shows President John Piper with Rep. Harrison as he signed a children's library book.

As has become our practice, we had a social event during the week of the fifth Tuesday, which was September 30th. Cammy Jackson suggested an early evening event at The Dessert Bar in downtown Midlothian, and we settled on 5:30 on Wednesday, October 1st as our meeting time.
Our program on September 23 was Matt Authier, CPA, whose business is real estate lending, but has a passion for financial literacy education in our public schools. Oh, yes, by the way, he is running as a candidate for Texas House District 10. His passion for public schools led him to seek the nomination. Matt has quite the resumé of leadership positions held in the community, by the way.

At the Rotary 'District 5810 Awards Banquet on September 4th, Midlothian Rotary received two awards, one for most Volunteer Hours and the other for being a Fun Club. We won in the smaller club category in each case, and were one of 2 awards for each of these.

A few days earlier we learned that we'd received a Club Excellence Award for this past Rotary year. So that's 3 awards.

At the banquet,  Kim Garey received the Star Award for Midlothian Rotary Club. Congratulations to Kim!

Two of our 2025 RYLA Campers, Ethan from Midlothian High School and Olivia from Heritage High School, gave us a report on their experience at RYLA Camp in late May. They also fielded questions from our group. I think we all felt our money was well spent. After the presentation we gave a book to an elementary school library in each of their names. President John Piper shown making the presentations.

Our RYLA Campers of 2025 (class of 2026 at Midlothian High and Midlothian Heritage High) returned from camp on Friday, May 30th. Don & Debbie Ellis and Tony & Jane Watson picked them up and their parents picked them up at Pinnacle Bank. We're sure they had a long sleep after this busy week, and we look forward to having them at one of our meetings soon to tell us about their experience.
